Sharp, steep, and seriously rewarding
Cholatse (6,440m) is one of the most striking peaks in the Everest region – a steep, technical mountain that demands focus, resilience, and next-level alpine skills. Over 29 unforgettable days, you’ll trek into the high Himalayas, summit Lobuche East (6,119m) as part of your preparation, and then take on Cholatse via its dramatic southwest ridge. For aspiring mountaineers seeking a serious challenge – this is as real as it gets.
The journey begins with a focused build-up: trekking through the Khumbu, summiting Lobuche East, and moving into climbing mode with targeted ropework, crampon use, fixed line travel, and glacier movement. Then we cross Chola Pass and move to Cholatse Base Camp and establish camp, preparing for the summit push. Cholatse is known for its steep ice faces, knife-edge ridges, and sustained exposure – it’s a proud ascent that requires full focus and the ability to move confidently on vertical terrain on fixed ropes.
Activity Grade: EXTREME
This is a serious high-altitude mountaineering expedition with complex terrain, variable snow and ice conditions, and demanding climbing. Over 23 days on the trail and mountain, you’ll move across glaciers, ascend steep snow and ice slopes, and spend long days at high elevation. Lobuche East provides a crucial warm-up climb, while Cholatse demands confident mountaineering skills, comfort with exposure, and the mental toughness to endure long summit pushes in unpredictable alpine conditions.
You’ll climb with crampons, ice axe, and fixed line systems – and must be comfortable learning or applying rope management, self-care in cold weather, and movement on 50–60° slopes. While prior experience is beneficial, strong novices with high fitness, discipline, and coachability are welcome. Nights are spent in teahouses early in the expedition, then transition to tents on the mountain. Facilities become increasingly basic, but the expedition is balanced with premium inclusions - helicopter transfers, 5-star hotels in Kathmandu, comfortable road transport, and expert mountain leadership. This is not a trek – it’s an elite alpine objective, designed for those ready to go deeper into technical Himalayan mountaineering.
