Iconic, technical, and unforgettable
Soaring to 6,812m, Ama Dablam is one of the most recognisable and coveted peaks in the Himalayas – a sharp, exposed spire of rock, snow, and ice. Over 32 powerful days, this expedition pairs Ama Dablam with Mera Peak (6,476m) – building the altitude tolerance, confidence, and technical skills needed to take on serious Himalayan summits. From the remote Hongu Valley to the iconic hanging glacier of Ama Dablam, this is a journey for climbers with clear intent and a desire to push beyond.
The expedition unfolds in stages. After a heli-drop into the lower Khumbu, we trek through remote valleys into the Hongu region, where we climb Mera Peak to build altitude conditioning. We then cross the dramatic Amphulapcha La (5,845m), which is a technical high pace that connects us to Ama Dablam base camp, serving as an appropriate refresh of our technical skills. We move into full expedition mode on Ama Dablam – ascending through high camps, climbing exposed ridges, and tackling the mountain’s technical rock sections and fixed lines on the upper face. With tight team dynamics and elite guides, you’ll learn, adapt, and climb as a cohesive climbing party.
Activity Grade: EXTREME
This is a high-commitment mountaineering expedition with complex alpine terrain and significant elevation gain. The Mera Peak phase is glaciated and physically demanding but non-technical – a critical step for acclimatisation and preparation. Ama Dablam, by contrast, is steep, exposed, and sustained. You’ll climb with crampons and ice axe, and move through mixed terrain on fixed ropes. Above camp 3 the climbing becomes more technical, with a 90-degree vertical ascent known as the Yellow Tower.
You’ll spend 26 days on the trail and mountain, with some summit days extending beyond 12-16 hours. This climb is suitable for those with previous experience on high-altitude treks or alpine climbs, who are fit and coachable individuals willing to train, learn fast, and commit. Nights are spent in teahouses during the early stages, shifting to tents at high camps on both summits. We inject premium comfort where possible – including private helicopters, 5-star Kathmandu hotels, comfortable road transport, expert mountain leadership, and a complete build-up training program. This is your chance to take on one of the Himalaya’s true icons – and walk away a sharper, stronger, and more capable climber.
